September 20 STAYING AT THE TEXT As Christians of the Word – meaning both the Bible and Word in Jesus Christ – we look to the living Word to guide, strengthen, comfort, and nurture us. In our Fall months together, then, we will gather to worship studying a different book of the Bible each month. This will allow us to work with passages under the umbrella of unifying themes. To prepare for these months, please consider reading the whole book more than once to have a well-rounded understanding of the text. In
September, read the prophet Jeremiah. In
October, read Paul’s second
letter to Timothy. In
November, read Paul’s second
letter to the church at Thessalonica. With
school starting up again in September, it is everyone’s chance to beef
up on learning skills. So,
with your reading, spend some time studying and asking questions of the
text, too. This work will take us more deeply into the Christian life,
as we seek to be faithful followers of Jesus and his Word.

To Be Announced AUGUST SESSION REPORT
Vacation ended for Session on Monday, August 13. It performed some routine tasks:
And, Session also performed some tasks that were considerably more interesting: o
nominating
individuals for a meritorious service award from the Presbyterian Homes o
hearing
reports of the activities of the “age group committees” o
approving
Pastor Tracie’s officiating at a couple of weddings o
discussing
pastoral care needs within the congregation o
discussing
ways to be more welcoming to others as a church and as a community o
approving
the purchase of a media projection machine through the Memorial Fund Taking time off is indeed refreshing, but there is a certain comfort in the routine of “getting back in the saddle” and in the genial banter of friends working together to serve your needs. We’re back at it! Peace,
Jeff Eyet SUMMER THANKSSummer

Tracie’s vacation time … thanks!
To Sally Laux, for providing a variety of musical offerings this
summer … thanks! To the
many musicians and vocalists who shared their gifts with the congregation
… thanks! VBS
THANK YOU Students
took the “plunge” into obedience, courage, faith and service during
Vacation Bible School August 13-16. The
teachers and recreation director experienced the same plunge weeks earlier
as they
prepared for VBS. Their
willingness to obey Jesus and, with courage and faith, serve
Him and the students was very evident as the days unfolded. Many
thanks to song leader/teacher Karen Wood, teachers Carol Moore, Mary
Shirey, Christy Johnson, Jill Reed, and Melissa Millward, helper turned
teacher, for
your enthusiasm and love of Jesus and the children. A great big, whopping thank you goes to Ryan Good who single-handedly and flawlessly directed recreation time for over 50 children. There was never a dull moment. Teachers
expressed praise and appreciation for Ryan’s enthusiasm for the Children
and his maturity in maintaining control at all times. Thanks
go also to helpers Jason Rishel, Harold Shirey, Kayla McCreadie, Sarah
Chorle, DJ Matsko, Eliot Reed and Jamye Nevel for your loving patience
and tenderness with the children. Thank
you to Mary Beth and Jeff Eyet who tirelessly provided theme-based snacks,
to
all who donated snack items, to Robin Yarger, crafts person for Karen
Wood’s third
and fourth grade class, and to Gigi Sayers for staffing the registration
table. And
last, but certainly not least, thank you Pastor Tracie for being the
leader with
JP Penguin during the opening and closing of VBS each day. VBS is truly a team effort. With Jesus as our guide, this team provided an amazing four days for our children. Thank you all! Holly
Kithcart, VBS Director THANKS
Many thanks
also go to Holly Kithcart, who was the Plunge In VBS Director this year
for the first time. Her
organization, creativity, and enthusiasm made it one of our finest VBS
weeks yet!
