CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION THANKSGIVING
More than any other event I’ve participated in during my nearly five years here, the Centennial Celebration generated more emails, calls, stops on the street, recalls of fond memories and echoes of thanks. What fun to hear the stories! What fun to learn a little bit more of the rich history! What fun to walk the Gray children around the manse and hear of their growing up years!
From the history lesson to the feast of food, the celebration was a delight. And the best part of the celebration is that it was done in the way church works best – together. I may have convened a committee and made a few check-in phone calls, but many, many others stepped out and contributed to the day. The clear work of the body of Christ working well, across miles and meetings and different ideas, is the great gift of the Holy Spirit among us. Thank you to each of you who listened to the voice of God in your life and joined in our day of pausing and giving glory to God. May we continue to pause, listen, follow, and give glory to God!
Hear the celebration continue through this email from Carl Gray I received a few days after April 27:
Sunday was very special, so well planned and executed and full of appreciation and praise for what God has and will do at FPC Philipsburg. Thanks again to you and to the wonderful congregation. We could not be more pleased with the way you have honored and remembered our father and mother, the portrait, the dedication of patio and parlor, the worship, and the wonderful food and fellowship. Well done good and faithful servants.
Carl Yes! Well done, indeed!
P.S. If you would like a recap of the day, or want to pass it on to someone who couldn’t attend, the church is taking orders for a 2-hour DVD Gary Barnett graciously filmed and edited as a gifted videographer. Please contact the church to place an order for $20 per DVD.

BRANSTETTER PRINT GIFT Joy Branstetter has painted and made prints of several historical buildings in Philipsburg, creating a new highly-sought after favorite for Philipsburg fans. She has graciously given a print to our church as a means of raising money for the Kitchen Fund and the church has secured a one-time gaming permit to sell chances for the framed print. Chances can be purchased for $5 each from any church officer or at special church meals. The chances will also be offered during Heritage days. The lucky winner will be drawn at the August 11 Session meeting.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW! Just a reminder to all helpers and kids – Vacation Bible School dates will be the week of August 11-14 for kids from 3 years old to those who have completed 3rd grade. Please note the date in your home schedules!

OUR CHURCH PRAYER FOR OUR CHILDREN YOUTH SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2008
Thank you for the innocence of children. Thank you, Lord, that you have blessed this church with our children. Thank you for their energy, their enthusiasm, and their eagerness to learn. Thank you for their honesty and wonder of the world around them.
Please bless these children as they move forward to adulthood. Bless them in their endeavors, in their success and in their failures. Help them to have the knowledge of your love and the wisdom to always turn to you for guidance when their lives are
in turmoil. As our children become older and become young adults and move on with their lives – whether it is going to college, getting married or starting a job – may they remember how important it is to have God in their lives as they do now and not put him off to the side. O Lord, grant them the wisdom and strength to understand and accomplish your will.
May our children grow up knowing how much they are loved by the people of our church, their parents and family members, and by you, O Lord. Let them trust the love of their family who will support them in their time of need and will love them no matter what comes their way. When life seems tough or hard to bear, may they know that you, Lord, are always with them wherever they go and that our church family will also be here for them. God, you didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain, but you did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears and light for the way.
May our children live their lives believing in you, God, and living their lives for you. May our children always have that teachable spirit and the courage to follow Jesus.
Guard them from harm and evil and make them strong to resist temptation. Encourage our children to keep in mind how to help others, bring joy into their lives, and help solve problems in your way. Help them to put your message and our lessons into action to provide them with wisdom for the needs of others. Help our children remember Psalm 33:11 ("The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.") that your plans for their needs stand firm forever through all generations. Amen.
