  JUNE 2005 NEWSLETTER

                            WRAPPING UP ON DAVID

June will mark the end of our year together listening in on

God’s work in the life of David.  Personally, I’ve had a ball with

this sermon series.  David had many contact points with our

own lives, and it was a pleasure to read through the details of his life.

I’d like to thank the folks who gave me feedback through this year

on the sermons, from those who read Samuel’s books alongside

the series to those who invited the sermons to sink into their lives.

My hope through this year with David is that we find

the foundation of God’s faithfulness underneath us, even as

we confess our own frailty as human beings.

If you just can’t get enough of David’s life, books abound

out there.  One which guided me in this year was

Eugene Peterson’s Leap Over a Wall.

CONGRATULATIONS!

62 Years Ago on June 13th….     Carl Gray’s Ordination

Congratulations go out to Scott Laux for celebrating his Eagle Scout

project with the Eagle Scout Court of Honor on May 15.  His work

on our Music Room is a continuing reminder of God’s work among us.

THANKS ABOUND

As usual, many folks have stepped forward

in generous and gracious ways to serve the

community at large.  This month, our thanks

goes out to the Flower Teams (for lack of a

better name) who joyfully carried out the

Spring Basket sales of more than 500 plants.

With Ethel Cipollini in the lead, you ladies (and helpful husbands!) know your stuff … Thanks!  To the Presbyterian Women who organized the Mother-Child Banquet … Thanks!  To the many men who stepped up at the Banquet to serve, carry children’s plates, and wash up … Thanks!  To Marti Eggers and Lisa Chorle who provided Banquet entertainment with the Peanuts gang … Thanks!  To the youth of our church who lead worship May 22, especially the brave preachers of Melissa and Hannah … Thanks!  To Jen Starner, who made sure every woman in church had a flower on Mother’s Day … Thanks!  To the helpers with the Blood Drive, including those who baked cookies or volunteered or hung up flyers or gave blood … Thanks!  To the Deacons, who have raised funds for the Thailand trip and then turned around to get Relay for Life rolling … Thanks!  To Marty Bullis, who became the de facto site manager during with the three crews who installed windows, painted, and paved … Thanks!  To the Wargs and the Moores, who generously provided hospitality to the Covenant Players … Thanks!  To MaryBeth Eyet, who shared her sewing skill to make Barbara Mosch a parting gift of a stole … Thanks!

BLOODMOBILE SUCCESS!

The Bloodmobile on May 3 successfully

reached our goal of 75 units, with excellent

volunteer support from Greeters, cookie makers,

Canteen workers, Escorts and Donors.  Thank you

for supporting this valuable gift of life!

BARBARA MOSCH MOVES ON

Barbara Mosch worshiped with us for her last

Sunday on May 15, where we celebrated her

growth as a pastoral candidate with the gifts

of a stole and portable communion kit.

Barbara finished her second of three years at

Lancaster Theological Seminary, and will spend the summer as a Hospital Chaplain in York before entering her final year at Lancaster.  We look forward to seeing Barbara ministering in the Huntingdon Presbytery, and give thanks for her ministry among us!

SENIOR RECOGNITION

Sunday, June 5, will include the special recognition time for our High School Seniors, as they graduate this year.  For many of you, it must seem like only

yesterday when Andy Bloom, Tyler Good, Hannah Holden, Lauren Lesko, Melissa Millward, Tara Storck, and Scott Test were toddlers here.  They have grown up, and they have accomplished a great deal.  Let us gather and celebrate God’s work in their lives!

POLO SHIRTS

Coming soon!  First Presbyterian Church,

Philipsburg, Pennsylvania polo shirts in white

with royal blue trim and the Presbyterian

cross! The cost for these heavy cotton shirts

will be $20 for small through XL sizes, $22 for XXL,

and $23 XXXL.  T-shirts for children, with the same

logo, will be available.  The price will be announced

as soon as we know it. The logo and name will be embroidered on the shirts.  Samples of the shirts, without the logo, will be put on display by the end of

May.  Order forms will be available soon.  The shirts must be paid for when ordered. Talk to Carol or Bill Moore for more information.  This is a Session approved project.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Our Relay Team kicked off their work at

the Pentecost lunch on May 15.  Walkers

and Workers are still needed for the Relay on June 25-26.  Our Baseball-themed booth will be offering a raffle for

Curve and Pirate tickets, as well as hot dogs and popcorn.  Bill Moore will be offering caricatures on Saturday afternoon of Relay weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for chances to donate food items, purchase memorial moons and stars, and help out the team.  More information will be available at the June 12 Church Luncheon.

THE YARD SALE IS COMING

The Annual Stewardship Yard Sale will be held

June 16 (for church member purchases) and

June 17-18 (for public sale).  Sale items can be

brought to the church basement.  If you need items picked up, Paul Springer can make arrangements to do so.  Please contact Ethel Cipollini to lend a hand in the sorting, pricing, and selling.  It’s not just about good bargains – it is a lot of fun with friends!

MEMORY STARS AND MOONS

Through June until Father’s Day weekend, the Deacons will

be offering the Relay for Life Moon and Stars

Memory Cards for display on Father’s Day Sunday, June 19,

and Relay for Life Sunday, June 26.  These simple gifts cost

only a $1 to remember or honor someone with.

CALLING ALL COLLECTORS!

Our church's Heritage Days contribution

will be a "Collections Show" where those

of you in the congregation can display

your collection for others to view.  Do you collect items as a hobby?  Talk with Gertie Clyde about the possibility of sharing your work during Heritage Days!

VACATION

Pastor Tracie and her family will be taking some vacation time to visit one of Marty’s college friends and family in Brownsville, Texas, June 16-22.  During

her absence, Jeff Eyet can be contacted for Pastoral needs.  Bill Moore will be leading the congregation in worship.  Please pray for renewal and travel mercies on the Bullis family while they are away.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL BREAK

During the months of July and August, our Sunday School classes

will not meet, nor will Children’s Church be held in the Nursery

during the Worship Service.  Families are welcome to sit together,

or care for little ones in the Nursery or Parlor, where the

service can be heard through a speaker.  Many thanks go out

to Sunday School teachers and Children’s Church workers who

have led classes for the last ten months.  We’ll be back in

Sunday School with the first Sunday in September!

KRISLUND CAMPERS ALERT!

If you haven’t signed up for Camp yet,

you need to contact Pastor Tracie and

get your forms in!  The FINAL sign-up for

our church-sponsored camp trips is Sunday, June 12 at the Deacon Church Lunch!  Grab a Krislund Camp brochure from the narthex and pick your camp dates today!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW!

Just a reminder to all helpers and kids – Vacation Bible School dates will be the week of August 8-11 for kids from 3 years old to those who have completed 1st grade.  Please note the date in your home schedules!

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE CHURCH DIRECTORY

Our Church is going to do Pictorial Directory to

help us recognize and know each other a little

better.  The Deacons will be working over the

summer on putting together pages and setting

up appointments for pictures.  We need everyone

to have their picture taken!  Each family or individual

will receive a free 8” by 10” photo, and there is no

obligation to buy any other pictures.

Please help this project succeed by doing two things:

1.      Search through your pictures of the last year and offer

church-related photos for the Directory Activity pages.

   2.  MARK the picture dates on your home calendar: August 18-20

        (Thursday evening through Saturday)

PER CAPITA UPDATE

In January, the church sent out the offering envelopes for

active members to contribute to the per capita fee the

church pays.  The per capita fee is a designated amount that

helps our Presbytery, Synod, and National church organizations have

the necessary funds for joint projects and needs.  This year, the

amount is $22.68 per member.  So far, you have contributed $2,148

of the total $4506.84 needed.  That is almost half of our need!

If you have not yet paid your per capita contribution, please

do so – assessing $22.68 for each active church member in

your household (so a family of 3, where each has joined or

been confirmed, would offer $68.04).
