FEBRUARY 2009 THE KITCHEN FUND IS BECOMING A NEW KITCHEN!
The big news of February is that the Kitchen will be dedicated on Sunday, February 8, as part of our Congregational meeting! That’s right! With a generous year of gifts in 2008, the Kitchen Fund has enough in it to remodel the kitchen as hoped, plus put in new stairs to Westminster and re-floor the men’s bathroom. This is an overflowing gift from our congregation to the future generations and ministries of our church. THANK YOU!
Final figures will be given once the remodel is finished, but the total given is over $28,000, and the current budget works well within that range. The work could not have been done without the energy and imagination of some very capable construction-minded people. At the top of that list is Don Blake, whose experience over the last 14 years of doing more than $30 million in school projects has been priceless to our work. The construction team of Ray Joe Millward, Tom Sayers, Tom Harris, and Tom Little have added good insight and wisdom. Painting the kitchen was accomplished by Don Blake, Tom Sayers, Ray Joe Millward, and Mouse Dixon. Mouse has also taken care of the new ceiling and the cabinet refurbishment. Chief cleaners have been Dottie Isaacson, Amy Bordas, Marty Bullis and Dick and Holly Kithcart. Color help has come from Joy Branstetter, Barb Little, Laura Barnett, Jill Blake, and Holly Kithcart. And those excellent muscle men and equipment movers of Don Blake, Dick Wood, Cory Wood (and truck!), Marty Bullis, Ray Joe Millward, Joe Millward, Tom Sayers, Jay Milsom, Paul Springer, Ed and Ryan Good, Jason Rishel, and Dick Kithcart got the 1100 pound stove down the stairs! Whew!
The full list of help won’t be complete until the kitchen is finished, but these many volunteers have brought the load this far. The remodel has created an opportunity to help with a need in that we now have two used electric stoves and two sinks that could be used or sold to someone. If anyone has suggestions, please speak with Pastor Tracie.
Grace and Peace,

FLOWER CHART DATES The 2009 Flower Chart for Worship Flowers is up in the foyer. If you would like to sponsor one of the open Sundays, please contact Laura Barnett (342-3476) to hear about open dates.
SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY The Youth will be at the door on February 1, Souper Bowl Sunday, to collect donations for the Community Food Bank. Every little bit helps! Last year, youth all over the world collected over $8,000,000 for the hungry!
LENTEN LUNCHES Our church will continue to host Lenten Lunches starting Wednesday, February 25 with a Service of Ashes and simple meal of soup and bread. Please plan to join us on Wednesdays at noon throughout Lent.
LENT DEVOTIONALS The Session is again providing Lent Devotionals for each household as a way for us to walk together during the season of Lent. Please pick up a devotional at the church by Wednesday, February 25, to spend some time in daily lessons for Lent.
AGAPE MEAL In keeping with the tradition of beginning Lent together on Ash Wednesday, the Session will be hosting an Agape Meal on Wednesday, February 25, at 6 PM in Westminster Hall. This year, the meal is offered as a gift from your Elders – inviting you to start Lent peacefully by having no dinner to cook or dish to bring. Please make time in your schedule to begin this season with our faith community. A short service with communion will follow our meal together. Since you need not bring anything, why not begin Lent with this simple reminder of God’s many gifts to you? This is a wonderful way to mark Jesus’ journey to the cross, and to invite others to explore the fellowship of our church.
WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY The Women’s Bible Study is a delightful opportunity for women to gather together to study God’s word as we journey together. The theme this year has been about journeys as we look into Ruth and Jonah. We’d love to have more women join us!
Monday, March 30, 7-8:30 PM – Jonah Monday, April 27, 7-8:30 PM – Jonah

INCOME AND EXPENSES FOR THE GENERAL FUND FOR THE YEAR 2008: Total Offering and Income to General Fund $115,305.00
Our leadership is taking this year to limit any extra expenses and capital projects, hoping the General Operating Budget will recover from this deficit next year when our congregation isn’t doing a fund drive like the Kitchen Fund that raised over $28,000.
