A
WORK CAMP IS COMING TO TOWN! Philipsburg
has the unique opportunity to host 350 high school students and their
leaders in our town on June 11-17.
These students are part of a Group Work Camp, which comes to
towns to do light maintenance, painting, and projects in homes of the
area. Sixty homes will be
aided in this effort! The Work Camp was made possible through the request of
Community Action, who is the local organization hosting the event. What
does all of this have to do with our church?
How about the way it takes care of those in need?
How about the way it offers a mission experience to high school
students, who PAY $400 each to come?
How about the way it gives us a chance to host virtual strangers?
How about the way it gives our town an opportunity to partner
together for good, meaningful work? This
Work Camp is being undertaken as a project by our Deacons, to take part
in offering hospitality to those who are coming.
In the next months, there may well be an opportunity to bake your
best cookies or drop off a pack of sodas or scoop up some ice cream for
these students. Our local
Dairy Queen has already donated 360 Dilly Bars!
The camp might need to borrow some ladders.
They will be parking in our new lot all week long, since the Jr.
High can’t accommodate the anticipated 80 or so vehicles needed to
bring all those folks here. If
you have a pool in your home, a youth group might enjoy a dip on
Wednesday, June 14, when they have their one free afternoon of the week.
Our Deacons are selling Marianna Hoagies to set up a “$1,000
Challenge” to any other church in Philipsburg or Osceola to help raise
the $11,000 still needed to fund the supplies for the work.
Plan to buy some for your dinner on Wednesday, February 15, or
lunch on February 16! When
all is said and done, our ministry as a church involves us in our
community. This Work Camp
is a great place to shine our light! Grace
and Peace, NOTE:
If this newsletter has been passed to you by one of our members
as an introduction
to our church, we welcome the opportunity to get to know you better
through coming to worship with us.
Our Sunday worship service begins every
Sunday at 10:30 AM, with Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 AM.
Our church
is located on Presqueisle Street between 5th and 6th
Streets, with parking
behind the building or on the street. OFFICER MEETINGS for FEBRUARY

FEBRUARY ANNIVERSARIES 5TH
– Bill and Kathy Richmond – 29 years 10th
– Andy and Amy Bordas – 10 years 12th
– Don and Ellen Tobias – 62 years PER CAPITA Each year, as part of our denominational responsibility, the church is asked to pay a certain amount for each active member.
This amount is decided based on
denominational needs and is voted on by Presbytery.
It is what helps to pay for Presbytery and national ministries
and expenses. For 2005, the
denominational support for our church is $24.67 per active member.
While the church is prepared to pay this amount, you are welcome
to contribute your family’s portion in the enclosed per capita
envelope. The family
portion is only necessary for active members. Baptized children are not assessed, but youth who are
confirmed are considered active members.
Thus, a family of 4 with two confirmed youth could offer $98.68,
or 4 times $24.67. Or, you
could keep it all round and make it an even $100!

This year, the meal is offered as a gift from your Elders – inviting you
to start Lent peacefully by having no dinner to cook or
dish to bring. Please make time in your schedule to begin
this season with our faith community. A short service with communion will follow our meal together.
Since you need not bring anything, why not begin Lent with this simple reminder of God’s
many gifts to you? This is
a wonderful way to mark Jesus’ journey to the cross,
and to invite others to explore the fellowship of our church. RELAY
FOR LIFE UPDATE Due to the Work
Camp opportunity for this year, and the date conflicts of June 17-18 for
both the Work Camp and Relay for Life, the Deacons have voted to
not have a Relay for Life Team from our Church for this year only.
With this decision, you are strongly encouraged to support other
teams with your financial gifts, volunteering and walking energy.
Also, please plan to attend the Relay for Life booths on
Saturday, June 18, to show our solidarity for the courageous men and
women who battle cancer. 3W The
3W Bible Study will be continuing for the remainder of the school year,
with an eye towards the meeting dates, times, and themes below.

He has been neutered and currently is in good physical
health. Please come over and see him or email

has been established to provide Centre County residents information
about medication discount programs, assistance in applying for
medication assistance programs, and referrals for basic needs such as
housing, heating, and food. We are currently in the process of recruiting volunteers. The
Project’s goal is to begin training volunteers as soon as
possible and begin serving clients in March 2006.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Office assistants, eligibility assistants, data entry, office
ambassadors, and patient advocates. 3-4 hours per week or have additional questions, please contact me
